Sofia has an interesting story to share, especially for anyone who might have been involved in Bill Gothard’s ATI program or Babywise or both.

Lewis has some great insight into the use of the phrases “Biblical” and “godly” when used in patriocentric teachings.

And, for those who insist that publicly challenging the teachings within the patriocentric world is wrong, check this out. Please read only if you have a sense of humor.

If this doesn’t move you, nothing will.

Kathy offers wonderful and wise advice on raising children.

Finally, someone is making a romantic comedy based on the real life of a homeschooling mom and cookbook author. How fun is this?

Reminds me of visiting a Church when my kids were small. The female pastor said something like “Now that’s where I disagree with Paul.” My son, then an ARCH-conservative on Biblical matters as only a newly baptized young boy can be said loudly, “Paul, in the BIBLE??” People turned around and stared. As we left he commented “Well, we won’t be coming back here–that’s for sure!”

I am so so horrified by the link of the poor little boy named Dominick! I looked up the news story and couldn’t even finish it.
I am a bit confused though, because his beating was by a druggie mom’s boyfriend. It wasn’t related to fundamentalism or patriarchy. I am not either of these, personally. We-oh maybe you could say dipped our toes in the water of fundamentalism, though I didn’t know enough to call it that, and found that water to be a bit chilly.
Are you saying that it’s common that patriarchal/fundamentalist parents will commonly severely punish kids for these types of things? Yikes.
    Respectfully.

SMA, I did realize that there was no connection to homeschooling in that story but was something we need to be aware of. One of the points of discussion on my podcast next week is that there is a move within some homeschooling circles to do away with Child Social Services and I believe children like little Dominick would be the ones to suffer.

“Are you saying that it’s common that patriarchal/fundamentalist parents will commonly severely punish kids for these types of things? ”

Type in Lydia Schatz in my search on this page and, sadly, you will see that the answer to that is “yes.”
